The Juneteenth Passport: More Than Just a Keepsake

COVER PAGE | This booklet will come in the same size as U.S. Passport

This year, we wanted to create something special — something that reflects the history, culture, and community spirit of Juneteenth in San Antonio. And so, the Juneteenth Passport - and t-shirt- was born. A first-of-its-kind experience blending history, storytelling, and local business.

Here’s what you need to know:

When & Where:
The passport bundle (a commemorative t-shirt comes with it) is available for pre-orders now and will be active for participating Juneteenth events throughout San Antonio from June 19-June 21.

Who Can Participate:
Everyone. Families, visitors, locals — the entire community.

Why We Created It:

The Juneteenth Passport is a fun activity and living archive of participation in Black freedom, joy, and legacy.

But it also holds deeper meaning. There was a time when Black people in America were denied the basic right to even carry a passport — to legally move, explore, and claim citizenship. In 1834, abolitionist Robert Purvis became one of the first Black travelers to challenge U.S. passport laws when he was denied a passport because of his race.

That’s part of the inspiration behind this Juneteenth Passport:

  1. To reclaim the right to move freely.

  2. To celebrate Black history and entrepreneurship right here in San Antonio.

  3. And to connect you to small-owned businesses through exclusive discounts, offers, and prizes — all while building generational community wealth.

Designer Spotlight:
Meet Jessica Meshaun, San Antonio designer and creative, bringing her bold designs to two powerful Green Book locations:

  • Majestic Theatre — once segregated, now reclaimed.

  • Cameo Theatre — a cornerstone of Black creativity on San Antonio’s Eastside.

Speak “too proper”?
Not “hood” enough?

This powerful documentary doesn’t shy away from the complexity of Black identity. Black Is… Black Ain’t unpacks it all: colorism, patriarchy, homophobia, and the pressure of "performing Blackness. See a short clip of the film below.
