I WILL NEVER ICE FISH AGAIN!

This is me in Minnesota struggling to make a hole in a frozen lake.

Why am I in Minnesota making holes in frozen lakes you ask? The architect behind my situation would be Boyz N The Wood - an outdoor retreat organized and designed to give Black men the opportunity to rest (ha!), connect with other men, and re-connect with nature.

Culture Travels magazine is an official storytelling partner of Boyz N The Wood. I first fell in love with the organization on its inaugural retreat in the North Cascades in Seattle.

Now, we go on every retreat around the country to tell the stories of these men and how Boyz N The Woods is fostering a better relationship with nature, their families and community, and themselves.

These retreats are free to attend and transportation can be provided in special circumstances.

Read our latest story to learn how these retreats are helping Black men to become better through the power of travel.

HAPPY ST. PATRICKā€™S DAY FREDERICK DOUGLASS?

A statue of Frederick Douglas in Belfast.

The first statue in Europe of a Black statesman was unveiled in Belfast last year to honor Frederick Douglass, who visited the city many times while he was in Ireland in 1845.

Douglassā€™s principal hosts in Ireland were members of the Quaker community, including his publisher Richard Webb. During his visit, Douglass delivered lectures on slavery and temperance in Dublin, Cork, Waterford, Wexford, Youghal, Limerick, Celbridge, Bangor, Lisburn, and Belfast.

Watch the video below to learn more about the legacy of Frederick Douglass in Ireland.
