“‘All people use food for more than mere nourishment” – Maya Angelou

Read our latest food story here.

In Richmond, Black-owned restaurants do more than serve meals; they create experiences. Fresh off her trip from Richmond, Marie (our food writer) shares her experience dining around the city. From soul food to inventive ice cream flavors, and a unique fusion of African and Jewish cuisine, she learned how these restaurants use food to educate, connect, and inspire every visitor. It’s holistic nourishment that feeds the mind, body, and soul.

82 GREEN BOOK LOCATIONS IN SAN ANTONIO?

Green Book location in Richmond, VA

If you're unfamiliar, a Green Book location is a place listed in The Green Book, an annual guidebook, created by Victor Hugo Green, that provided safe places for African American travelers during the Jim Crow era.

The San Antonio African American Community Archive and Museum, SAAACAM for short, has discovered 82 Green Book locations in San Antonio.

On October 4, the SAAACAM (soon to be the second-largest African American museum in the country) has invited our founder, Leroy Adams, to moderate a fireside chat with Yoruba Richen, the director of the acclaimed documentary Green Book: Guide to Freedom, and Lawrence Phillips, founder of the Green Book Global app (a modern-day version of the original Green Book).

The discussion will follow a one-hour screening of The Green Book: Guide to Freedom.
