HOW RIHANNA AND THE MURDER OF GEORGE FLOYD ARE RESHAPING BEAUTY STANDARDS IN CHINA
Rihanna’s recently announced expansion of Fenty - her insanely popular cosmetic beauty brand - in the Chinese market is not only a testament to business acumen but also an example of the power she wields to change hearts and minds.
In China, Rihanna will make the type of money that will set RZA and Riot’s grandchildren up for life, grow Fenty into the Louis Vuitton of the cosmetic industry, and, driven by her massive celebrity and inclusive brand messaging and products, give support to voices, sparked by the murder of George Floyd, ushering in a new narrative on race, identity, and beauty standards in Asia.

FOUR DAYS BEFORE HIS DEATH, MARTIN LUTHER KING JR. VISITED THE BAHAMAS
“Take me somewhere tranquil” - Martin Luther King, Jr. to Ansil Saunders
Images from his time depict him as a gifted orator, resilient and strong, but never a moment of peace with white sheet-covered faces committed to his death.
On this day of Black Travel History, we want to add to his story by celebrating the moments that brought MLK joy, peace, and rest.
April 1, four days before his death, Dr. King enjoyed the solitude of Bimini, Bahamas where he would visit twice in 1964 and 1968 to write, think, and rest.

In 1968, he sat in his friend, Ansil Saunders’, fly fishing boat sharing psalms while he worked on his final speech – “I’ve been the to the Mountain Top.” MLK had a great influence on Ansil and the community of Bimini, inspiring freedom in the Bahamas from colonial rule and for equality.
MLK’s preferred meal on Bimini was Conch Fritters and Ginger Ale, a meal he ate daily. There are 2 busts of Martin Luther King Jr. on Bimini, one located at the Bimini Craft Centre in Alice Town, and the other at The Healing Hole, a remote hole deep in the mangroves of North Bimini accessible only by boat.
